Tubes

16 serial camera photographs. Collections of industrial mass production affected by system disruptions, exhibiting certain deviations from manufacturing standards. I call these “multiple objects.” They are found both in the field of nature and technology. Their appeal lies both in aesthetic appearance as well as in dichotomies such as individual and mass, chance and necessity, and structure and form. The project was an attempt to apply ideas and methods of generative photography to still life photography.

The collection consists of bundles of industrial profile tubes of varying sizes and quantities held together by steel straps. This creates its own morphological structures, layers of warehouses and logistics. I see this as grammar (rules), its own form (syntax) and meaning (sense). The objects were photographed in 1979 with a 9 x 12 large-format camera in a studio with white background, combining free and contracted work for Röhrenwerk C. Froh in Sundern-Hachen.
